Spark & Cinder

The number one dance band in the Chico. Ca. area since its inception in 1976, The Spark & Cinder Band, known internationally, continues to produce its unique style of music through the nineties. Mixing Reggae, R&B, Jazz, Calypso and Samba rhythms in their own Rock & Roll style, it is truly a band that cannot be catagorized.

Leader, composer, drummer Jimmy Fay and his partner of 17 years, bassist Dik Slax, present a tandem rhythm section that goes beyond "tight" or "professional." Together they account for 90 percent of the band's material. Joined by keyboardist, multi-instrumentalist Kim Gimbal, himself a legendary figure in the Chico music scene, Dana Olsen, a brilliant accompanist and terrifying soloist on guitar, and crowd-pleasing Jeff Daub on trumpet, a strong soloist and composer in his own right, Spark & Cinder puts on a high quality, pulsating, non-stop live show, creating an undeniable stimulus to the universal urge to dance!

Having appeared in most areas of the USA in its lengthy career, Spark & Cinder has shared the stage with the likes of Robert Cray, Norton Buffalo, Taj Mahal, The Sons of Champlin, David Lindley, Judy Mowatt, Sly and Robbie, Pato Banton, Culture, Robben Ford, Elvin Bishop and many others. A 1992 performance opening for Bob Dylan was particularly memorable.

A top-notch organization that has stood the test of time, and sounding better than ever: The Spark & Cinder Band. Chico, Ca.
